As reported by Florian Plettenberg<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, Derry John Murkin will stay at Schalke<\/span><\/a> this season.<\/p>\n

Over the past few years, it has not been easy for those associated with Schalke<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

From the heights of Champions League football and finishing second in the Bundesliga<\/span><\/a> behind Bayern Munich to fighting relegation to the 3. Liga, it certainly has not been easy.<\/p>\n

However, finally, it appears as though there is some light at the end of the tunnel for those associated with Die K\u00f6nigsblauen.<\/p>\n

A stellar 5-1 victory over Eintracht Braunschweig<\/span><\/a> in the opening game of the 2. Bundesliga<\/span><\/a> season sees Karel Geraerts\u2019 side sitting top of the table.<\/p>\n

As well as this, Murkin, one of Schalke\u2019s key defenders, has insisted that he will remain at the club this season.<\/p>\n

This comes after the Englishman was linked with a move away to Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, with the two clubs unable to agree on a fee for the defender, Murkin has ensured that he is happy to remain at the Veltins Arena.<\/p>\n

“I have informed the club that I am staying. This season I will play for Schalke, and next season, hopefully, in the Bundesliga with Schalke.”<\/em><\/p>\n

“There was contact with Holstein Kiel, and Schalke was aware of it. But it is not true that an agreement was very close.”<\/em><\/p>\n

With the Englishman\u2019s future settled, will Schalke continue to shine and find a way back to the Bundesliga?<\/p>\n
