In an interview with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rp-online.de\/sport\/fussball\/borussia\/gladbach-stegemann-interview-nach-virkus-aus-kann-ich-versichern_aid-136061547\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Rheinische Post<\/strong><\/a>, CEO Steffen Stegemann said:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;We are holding discussions and preparing a decision, which we will then make together with the Executive Committee and Supervisory Board,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;re first looking for someone in charge. Whether that&#8217;s a sports director or a sporting director depends on the profile we find and the profile that&#8217;s interested in taking on this job for Borussia,&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Gladbach&#8217;s search for a sporting director:<\/h3>\n<p>It is still not clear who will replace Virkus, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getfootballnewsgermany.com\/2025\/virkus-gladbach-successor\/\">with names such as Jonas Boldt and Nils-Ole Book mentioned<\/a>, and there are now two further names, one is J\u00f6rg Schamdtke.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Schamdtke spent a season at Liverpool as their interim sporting director and completed the signings of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo. But it was in Germany where Schmadtke made a name for himself, as sporting director for Wolfsburg, K\u00f6ln, Hannover, Aachen, whilst also recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getfootballnewsgermany.com\/2025\/bochum-securing-schmadtke\/\">having a supervisory role at Bochum<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The younger Schmadtke, Nils, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getfootballnewsgermany.com\/2023\/borussia-monchengladbach-appoint-nils-schmadtke-as-sporting-director\/\">was also previously at Borussia Park as a sporting director<\/a>, before moving to Bayern Munich as a scout. The elder J\u00f6rg was also assistant coach for current president Rainer Bonhof when he was die Fohlen&#8217;s head coach.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Gladbach were to hire J\u00f6rg, it is possible he would work in a duo alongside Jan Schlaudraff, who has previously worked alongside Schamdtke when the pair were at Wolfsburg.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another candidate is Lutz Pfannenstiel, who was previously sporting director at Fortuna D\u00fcsseldorf, while his most recent job was in the MLS with St.Louis City.
